FreedomFest: Where Free Minds Meet
Talking Points: FreedomFest will become the largest freedom
conference in the United States. If you get an opportunity attend
the next annual conference.
FreedomFest is an
annual festival where "free minds meet" to celebrate "great books,
great ideas, and great thinkers" in a liberal, open-minded society.
It is independent, non-partisan, and not affiliated with any
organization or think tank. It's a meeting place for all
free thinkers! It is open to anyone who enjoys a wide interest in
books, art, music, film, and drama. Our discussion and debate
topics range from philosophy and history; arts and entertainment;
public policy and geo-politics; science and technology; economics
and finance; to law and religion. FreedomFest
attracts people of all walks of life and across the political
spectrum to learn, debate and honor great books, great ideas, and
great thinkers.
Independent and
Non-Partisan
FreedomFest
is an annual festival where "free minds meet" to celebrate
"great books, great ideas, and great thinkers" in a liberal,
open-minded society. It is independent, non-partisan, and not
affiliated with any organization or think tank. Founded and
produced by Mark Skousen since 2002, FreedomFest invites the
"best and the brightest" from around the world to talk,
strategize, socialize, and celebrate liberty. FreedomFest is
open to all and is purely egalitarian, where speakers,
attendees, and exhibitors are treated as equals.
"The Best
& the Brightest" Meet Annually
in the World's
Most Libertarian City
Since its
inception, FreedomFest has met in Las Vegas, the world’s most
libertarian city. Where else can you see a great show, eat at a
five-star restaurant, visit a museum, enjoy the entertainment,
or see the lights and sounds of the world’s freest resorts and
casinos after a long day of intellectual learning and debate? The date for FreedomFest 2007 is special:
July 4-7, 2007, at
Bally’s/Paris Resort in Las Vegas. (The Festival does not
officially begin until Thursday afternoon, July 5th, but for
those who would like to be there for the Fourth of July, we are
planning a fun evening, including a cocktail reception and
watching the fireworks on The Strip.)
This Year's
Special Event on 7-7-7
What better
time to celebrate liberty than the anniversary of the signing of
the Declaration of Independence, when our Founders gave their
lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to establish a free
land. This year FreedomFest culminating in an unforgettable
Saturday night Liberty Banquet on 70707--July 7, 2007--where
Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin will
address us.
Who should
attend FreedomFest? It’s open to anyone who enjoys a wide
interest in books, art, music, film, and drama in all topics,
including science, philosophy, economics, health, sports,
technology, business, religion, law, and politics. FreedomFest
attracts people of all walks of life and across the political
spectrum to learn, debate and honor great books, great ideas,
and great thinkers.
Never a Dull
Moment: Here's Why
If you have never
attended FreedomFest, you are in for a treat. FreedomFest is an
intense three days. It's different from any conference you have
ever attended. Have you been to a seminar where you were bored
by the speaker? Well, there's never a dull moment at
FreedomFest, because we offer seven sessions simultaneously,
including discussions and debates about philosophy and history;
arts and entertainment; public policy and geo-politics; science
and technology; economics and finance; law and religion. (For
those who wish to attend more than one session at a time, we
tape all forums and workshops and made them available for sale
during the festival. We sell a lot of audio CDs!)
Get ready for separate
forums on philosophy, science and technology, art and
entertainment, economics, geo-politics, finance, and literature,
among others. There’s a debate room, where a new hot topic is
debated every hour, general sessions where we hear world-renown
experts, and a special one-hour time where we hear 6-7 "bright
new stars"--up and coming scholars who have something to
contribute. No other conference in the world offers these
opportunities.

Ron Fact, Book & Video Recommendations For This Page:
FreedomFest is a great annual event for freedom and Tami Holland
is the Conference Coordinator. It is not my event and I'm only
slightly involved as Tami and Mark Skousen run the show but I really
believe it is the leading freedom event of the year and it will be
even bigger in 2008. Listed below are my favorite books on freedom
and liberty.

How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World
by Harry Browne. Harry wrote
this classic book on freedom way back in 1973 and I still rate it as
my personal favorite on personal freedom. He lived in Switzerland
and published a very successful book on Swiss banks and banking that
help set the stage for my interest in Switzerland, the Swiss Franc
and the Swiss model of limited government through confederation and
citizen direct democracy.

Speaking of Liberty by Llewellyn H.
Rockwell. Ludwig von Mises said that teaching the public was just as
important as addressing scholars maybe more so. That is what Lew
Rockwell specializes in: history and theory and analysis in defense
of the free society, written in clear prose to reach a broad
audience. Rockwell's new book is as pro-liberty as it is brutally
critical of government. It is relentlessly forthright yet hopeful
about the prospects for liberty. It is rigorous enough to withstand
the enemy's closest scrutiny, and chock full of the energy and
enthusiasm that will keep you reading.
Reclaiming
Liberty by James Ronald Kennedy. Ron
writes that we can no longer afford to depend upon incumbent
politicians, party hacks, and business-as-usual conservative leaders
to defend our personal freedoms. The past one hundred years have
been disastrous for constitutional rights in America. Direct and
indirect taxation now consume more than 60 percent of our income--we
are no longer the land of the free but have become a land of tax
serfs. Government interference in our social life has grown from
almost nothing in 1900 to almost overwhelming today. Over the past
century America’s politicians transformed the U.S.A. from the land
of individual liberty and personal accountability to a land of
socialist feudalism.
How
Capitalism Saved America by Thomas
Dilorenzo. Tom has written a great defense of free-enterprise and
capitalism in America as he debunks many historical myths from a
libertarian and freedom oriented perspective. This books follows his
controversial book on Lincoln which leads the way in showing the
economic factors behind the War Between the States that have been
hidden from view by Lincoln apologists.
Taking
America Back by Joseph Farah.
According to Joseph Farah, Americans are faced with an unresponsive
and unaccountable one-party political system, an establishment
propaganda machine posing as a free press, and cultural
institutions—educational, charitable, entertainment, religious,
medical, and others—seduced by the materialist gods of an
all-powerful secular state. Even more important, the crisis this
represents cannot be resolved through the political system by
electing new politicians to office. A much more profound, long-term,
and fundamental shift if needed, one that rejects the validity of
the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-controlling state and affirms the
values upon which the American nation was founded

Fact, Book & Video Recommendations For This Page:
FreedomFest is simply about freedom and liberty. It brings
together a wide range of conservatives, libertarians, Austrian
economists, anti-war groups and free-market believers in a broad
conference environment where free ideas and solutions to problems
are discussed and debated. It is worth attending if you value
freedom regardless of where you are located on the political
spectrum. - Ron Holland
