Dollar Disaster: Ron Holland's 2007 Investment Forecast

Investment forecasts are often deliberately vague, hard to understand and filled with face saving loopholes to protect the writer when wrong but my forecast for 2007 is a relatively easy call.

(1) The Dollar Will Fall Disastrously Lower - Lower interest rates will likely result  in a collapse in the U.S. dollar compared to it's 14% rally last year from rising interest rates. Falling interest rates, the exploding trade deficit, a rise in euro zone rates and the risk of China and Asia reducing their dollar reserves will bring about a dollar collapse that could cause the dollar to slide maybe 30% to the Euro and Swiss Franc during 2007.

(2)  Bonds Up - Interest rates will fall due to weakness in the U.S. housing market and domestic bond related investments should do well in dollar terms.

(3)  Housing Down Except in Selected Niche Markets
- Housing prices will continue to weaken especially in the former “hot real estate markets” in Florida, large cities and on both coasts but lower rates will soften the downtrend as the FED protects housing at the expense of the dollar.  Note aging demographics, active retirement lifestyles and wealthy retirees leaving cities and now over-crowded retirement locations will benefit real estate prices and growth opportunities in new favored retirement and second home areas like Southern Utah, NC and Arizona.

(4) American Stock Market Up But With Increasing Risk of Crash  -
Falling domestic interest rates generally benefit the stock market but the falling dollar could spook the U.S. markets as foreign investors pull money out of our stock market to escape their currency loses.

(5) Gold and Gold Mining Stocks Will Rise In This Scenario - As in the 1970's, precious metals, collectables and rare coins should rise in value.

Recommendations:  First, take stock market profits and head to the exits into domestic money market and fixed income investments for your American dollar denominated assets. Second, dramatically add to foreign equities, bonds and euro and Swiss franc denominated investments to escape the coming dollar disaster.  Third, with the Democrat Party election victory expect rising taxes, more regulation, threats to your retirement plans and greater risk of litigation, thus go offshore for superior asset protection, investment gains and currency profits. Finally, if you don't have a core holding of precious metals and coins, start one now held either here at home or better offshore in a respected financial institution or depository.
